The finer things
Stairs take you up to the first floor where you’ll find Harcourt Terrace II, a typically smart South Ken apartment. The front door leads to the impressive open-plan sitting room, with the sleek corner kitchen to your left – there are slate-grey cupboards, black countertops and a varnished dining table that seats four. But it’s the lavishly decorated sitting area that really catches the eye. Here, a sofa faces an ornamental (and ornate) white mantelpiece. There’s a mirror above and, on either side, equine portraits – all outlined in gold-leaf frames. Just beside the fireplace, a set of French doors opens onto the stuccoed balcony.

Next door, delicate artworks (pretty floral prints) hang above the double bed in the master bedroom, where you’ll also find this home’s TV. Like the sitting room, the bedroom has high ceilings, long curtains and elaborately gilt mirror. Another set of French doors lead out to the balcony, where there are views of the street’s grand architecture – one of the finer things in life.
